Members of the University of Illinois community were among those honored by the Cities of Champaign and Urbana during the 10th Annual International Humanitarian Awards Dinner September 27 at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Among the recipients of the awards were Nianhua Wang, a representative of the Chinese Executive Leadership Program (CELP) at Illinois, and Scientific Animations Without Borders (SAWBO), a group comprised of Illinois faculty and staff. Both were recognized for their contributions in Research/Education.
Nianhua Wang came to Illinois as a visiting scholar from the Shanghai University of Science and Technology in 1990. He went on to enroll in U of I’s Business Administration Program and was inspired to create a formal relationship between the People’s Republic of China’s State Administration on Foreign Experts Affairs and the University of Illinois. He collaborated with the university to design and implement the University of Illinois China Executive Leadership Program in 1993. CELP has provided customized executive education to more than 4000 high-ranking business leaders, scientists, government officials, bankers and academicians from all over China.
Wang has been committed to CELP’s vision of “Education, Friendship and Knowledge.” He has been involved in the marketing and development of each of the 200 CELP programs developed over the years. His contribution to this program and involvement with each delegation from China has helped foster friendship, mutual respect and understanding between the business world and academicians in China, Illinois, and the Champaign-Urbana community...
